Look at this sleepy cat sitting on a window sill. The cat’s eyes are closed while it enjoys lazing in a favourite spot in the sun. Notice the work of art’s title. What is a siesta? Have you ever enjoyed a sleep in the afternoon? What would the cat be dreaming about?
The artist, Lionel Lindsay, was a very skilled printmaker who was often inspired by gardens and animals.
The other cat is eating some sea creatures called shrimps. The cat uses its paws to help it eat. Did you notice the basket behind the cat? What would the basket be used for?
Activity: Using lead pencils or charcoal draw what you think is inside the basket.
